GREEN HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AND WORKPLACE SPONTANEITY IN MOBILE TELECOMMUNICATION COMPANIES IN SOUTH-SOUTH NIGERIA

ABSTRACT

This study evaluates the relationship between green human resource management and workplace spontaneity in mobile telecommunication companies in South-South Nigeria. The study adopted a cross-sectional survey design while its theoretical framework was built on the social exchange theory. The population of the study comprises of four (4) mobile telecommunication companies in South-South Nigeria and a sample size of 102 top and middle level management staff. Data was gathered through questionnaire administration. The Cronbach alpha reliability test was used in assessing the reliability of the instrument adopted in the study. Also, Spearman Rank Order Correlation Coefficient technique was used to assess the relationship between the study variables and to test the stated hypothesis with the aid of statistical package for social science (SPSS Version 26.0) software. The study findings revealed that there is a positive and significant relationship between green human resource management and the measures (self-development, altruistic attitude and constructive suggestions) of workplace spontaneity. Based on the findings and conclusions, the study recommended that management and general managers in mobile telecommunication companies should adopt green human resource management to enhance spontaneity behaviour in the workplace.
